Taking care of yourself

We live in a world where being busy is highly encouraged and praised. We live on our calendar and have to embed basic essentials into it because we are so busy that otherwise, we will forget.

I am guilty of adding reminders to drink water or take a mental break on my calendar. I am about to incorporate taking my vitamins. This is the only way I can remember to do these things that are important to me, my body, and my overall wellbeing.

But why have we adapted this culture? There are countries that go down for lunch, they don’t have lunch and work at their desk. They close and respect that time. We live in an isolated world where creating and engaging with your community is something you have to consciously work towards.

We send voice memos because it is easier than writing a message or an email or communicating in person. We purchase fast food because there is no time to cook a whole meal.

However, this week I was reminded that we need to take a break. We need to rest, to sleep with all the tabs of our brain closed. We need to eat as healthy as we can, drink water, and take our vitamins. We need to listen to our body when it is talking to us. Otherwise, it will crash and make sure we involuntarily rest.

We need energy to come together, tackle our to-do lists, and thrive. We need creativity and exploration but these are only possible, when you are well rested and ready to be present holistically. This way you can enjoy life because it is the only one we have and the world is already so hectic and busy. We deserve to live happy and healthy lives.
